The free breakfast program was a significant hallmark of the Black Panthers’ programming throughout the organization’s tenure. The program ran counter to what many people, who often focused more on a narrative of violence rather than the organization’s continually community-based focus, believed the Black Panther Party supported.

The Black Panthers also had a Ten Point Program, which outlined the clear principles that they expected their members to follow in order to achieve Black liberation. In addition to the free breakfast program, the Black Panthers used their eponymous newspaper as a means of getting the word out.
