Beatrice Tinsley was an astronomer and cosmologist. She served in Yale’s Department of Astronomy 1975–1981, as Associate Professor 1975–1978, as Professor 1978–1981. She has been commemorated by the American Astronomical Society with its Beatrice Tinsley Prize. In New Zealand, there is a mountain named in her honor by the New Zealand Geographic Board (2011).
