Marie Catherine Neal, MS
Marie Neal received her MS Degree from Yale in 1925 and wrote her thesis on Hawaiian marine algae. She also served as the geology department’s secretary. At the Bishop Museum in Hawaii, she served as part-time botanist (1920–1926) and director of its herbarium beginning in 1930. Her major work was In Gardens of Hawaii (The Museum, 1948), which discussed, illustrated, and described 2,000 species of plants.
