Walking Down Memory Lane on the 50th Anniversary of YJIL
Welcome
The Lillian Goldman Law Library invites you to explore this digital exhibit, which was created to archive a Spring 2024 physical exhibit. Walking Down Memory Lane on the 50th Anniversary of the Yale Journal of International Law (YJIL): An Exhibit in Honor of Professor W. Michael Reisman, Teacher, Jurist, Enduring Patron, and Inspiration, accompanied the March 8, 2024 symposium The Yale Journal of International Law's 50th Anniversary Conference: Celebrating the work of W. Michael Reisman. The conference, organized by Professors Oona Hathaway (Yale Law School) and Kathleen Claussen (Georgetown Law) along with YJIL members Ali Hakim, Philsan Isaak, Sarah Myers, Inbar Pe'er, and Catey Vera, brought together Yale Law alumni, professors, practitioners, and former editors of YJIL from all over the world, celebrated the life-long work of Professor Reisman, and the 50-year tenure of Yale Journal of International Law.
This digital exhibit, like the physical one, comprises three parts. The main component, which was originally exhibited in the Law Library Reading Room, highlights Reisman's work as a counsel and arbitrator, as a prolific author and inspiring teacher, and as an advocate for policy change.
The second part features a timeline that traces the memorable milestones underlying the evolution of the Yale Journal of International Law in its five decades, from its inaugural hand-typed issue as Yale Studies in World Public Order to its present dual format of both print and online. It documents the vibrant intellectual exchanges among law students, teachers, scholars, practitioners, and policy-makers.
The third component illuminates the enduring influence of the New Haven School of International Law, from its inception at Yale in the 1950’s to the present day globally. It provides the backdrop and context with which Professor Reisman’s scholarship and that of the Journal can be appreciated.
