The Medical Library at Yale
The Medical Library at Yale
The Harvey Cushing/John Hay Whitney Medical Library at Yale as it is today is the result of the efforts of book collectors and lovers, library staff, Library Associates, our users in the Medical School and Yale Health system communities, as well as the Schools of Nursing and Public Health, members of the larger Yale community, and other individuals over the course of hundreds of years. From the first few volumes given to Yale University in the eighteenth century, the Medical Library is now a massive center for medical knowledge and information supporting research, learning, education, and the larger missions of the Medical School and Yale University.
This exhibition began as a physical exhibition entitled The Medical Library at Yale, 1701-2001, which was on display in the rotunda of the Medical Library from mid-December 2001 through January 2002. It was prepared by Toby Appel, Ph.D, former Historical Librarian, as the last in a series of Yale Tercentennial exhibits. Ned Pocengal prepared the first web adaptation, the basis for this online exhibition. Another physical exhibition was mounted for the Library's 75th anniversary in 2016, prompting a sorely needed update for the online exhibition.
