American Library Association's Preservation Week

In May of 2010, the American Library Association, in partnership with Heritage Preservation, sponsored the first Preservation Week. The goal of this annual effort is to raise awareness of the importance of preserving our national treasures. Preservation Week highlights the fact that in addition to billions of heritage collections in libraries, archives, and museums, there are just as many objects in the hands of private collectors, families, and community groups. Preservation Week is a call to action and advocacy—asking professionals and the public to do at least one thing to ensure that our cultural heritage is passed on to future generations.
