Ida Barney was an astronomer who received her Ph.D. in Mathematics from Yale University in 1911. She served in the Yale University Observatory as Research Assistant 1922–1949 and then as Research Associate 1949–1955. In 1952, she was awarded the Annie J. Cannon Prize from the American Astronomical Society, “given every three years to a woman of any nationality who had made outstanding contributions to astronomy” (Shearer and Shearer, p. 3).
