This photo comes from the research of Professor Geha. The large spiral galaxy M31 is similar to our Milky Way Galaxy. There are two smaller satellite galaxies in this image which orbit around M31. The number and properties of satellite galaxies around M31, our Milky Way, and other massive galaxies provide key clues to both how galaxies form and the nature of dark matter.
