Mary Locke Petermann (1908–1975), Ph.D.

Mary Petermann was a biochemist and physiological chemist. She worked as a technician at Yale 1929–~1931. She received her Ph.D. in physiological chemistry in 1939 at University of Wisconsin. She went on to become the first woman member and a professor at Cornell University’s Graduate School of Medical Sciences. She was the first woman to hold the title of Full Professor there. In 1966, she received the American Chemical Society’s Garvan Medal and the Distinguished Service Award from the American Academy of Achievement. In 1976, the AWIS Educational Foundation named a graduate scholarship in her name.
