Biography
Born in 1847 in Wilmington, Delaware, Bayard Thomas Smith began his medical training at Lincoln University, where he was in a class of six students. When Lincoln suspended medical instruction in 1874, he transferred to Yale along with his schoolmate from Lincoln, George Robinson Henderson. He received his MD from Yale in 1875. Smith was a member of the Odd Fellows and a member of Zion M.E. Church. Smith returned to his home state after graduation and began practicing medicine. He died of tuberculosis in 1880 at the age of 34.
