Biography
Born in British Guiana (now Guyana) in 1887, Duke Gray Monroe attended the Congregational seminary in Georgetown, British Guiana from 1908 to 1911. He then received his bachelor's degree in systemic theology from Lincoln College in 1914, followed by a year of study at Yale. He was awarded a bachelor of divinity degree from Yale in 1915. In 1918, he married Amy Irene Nanton, and they had seven children. In 1920, he served as a delegate to the International Council of Congregational Churches held in Boston in 1920. By the 1940s, he had returned to British Guiana, where he served as a Congregational minister, teacher, and school administrator.
