Biography
Born in 1865 in Summit Bridge, Delaware, Isaac Napoleon Porter earned a BA from Lincoln University in 1890 before coming to Yale. He graduated from the Yale School of Medicine in 1893 and established a large and successful medical practice in New Haven. In 1908, he married Gertrude C. Ward of St. Joseph, Michigan.
Porter was a well known figure in New Haven. A Republican, Porter served as councilman from Ninth Ward in 1896 and 1897. He was involved in fraternal organizations such as the Masons and the Elks, was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, was active in professional societies including the New Haven Medical Society and the American Medical Society, and was a member of Zeta Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He was a trustee of Immanuel Baptist Church in New Haven. He died in 1926 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in New Haven.
